The family of a baby killed in a stolen car wreck shed new details on who stole the car the baby was in.
Police said 13-month-old Zarion Robinson died early Saturday morning at a hospital, hours after they say a woman stole the car he was in and crashed it.
Police said Zarion's mother had left him in the car unattended and ran inside a home.
On Tuesday, during a vigil for Zarion, family told WISN 12 News the baby's mother was giving an acquaintance a ride. According to family, the mother ran inside for a minute while the woman sat in the passenger seat.
Family says that the woman jumped into the driver's seat and took off with Zarion still in the back.
Police say the car she was driving wrecked into another vehicle at N. 35th Street and W. Hope Avenue Friday night.
Milwaukee police said speed was a factor in the crash. A medical examiner's report said the 1-year-old's car seat was not properly strapped in.
"A lot of bad decisions being made. Someone stealing a car, let alone with a 1-year-old child that doesn't belong to you, it's almost like kidnapping," said Tasha Hawkins, the maternal step-grandmother of baby Zarion. "Mom had nothing to do with this. There was nothing she could have done to prevent this from happening. Just an unfortunate event, nothing she could have done."

Zarion's mother declined to comment on Tuesday.
"I gave him the nickname Cocomelon. Happy," said Janet Mayfield, the paternal grandmother of baby Zarion. "He was my favorite. He was a joyful baby."
A spokesperson for the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office said they're still reviewing the case and no charges have been filed for the 31-year-old woman arrested. MPD initially reported still searching for two people who fled the scene of the crash from the other car. They did not immediately respond to WISN 12 News when asked if they had made additional arrests.
